Duane Hodgkinson and his army buddy, in 1944
New Guinea, entered a clearing just west of Finschhafen. On the other side of the clearing a huge form started running to the left, flapping its wings. Hodgkinson assumed at first that it must be a bird, but as it ran, he saw a long tail (he guessed 10-15 feet long) with no possibility of confusion with feet, for the creature was running. He also saw a long appendage coming out of the back of the head. There was no sign of feathers. The wingspan was similar to that of a Piper Tri-Pacer airplane.
