Why is the third category of genetic mutation predicted to be very rare? Because it will
simultaneously increase immediate survivability and start a process that may eventually
result in a new biological structure that will allow for an alternate source of energy to be
used. It could be compared to choosing a number that wins two independent lotteries at
the same time. This type of mutational change must be predicted to be much less likely
than a change that produces only an increase in IS or only an increase in PAES.
