Many cases utilize 3D animation. An expert wit- ness can use it to clarify what would otherwise be complex concepts. It's often used in personal injury cases, to reconstruct an accident.
You'll find animation to be an invaluable tool in helping the jury make sense out of technical jargon. Your points need to be understood and 3D animation might make the difference in the outcome of your case.
The cost of 3D animation is only a fraction of what it was a few years ago. Back in the mid- 1980's, 3D animations usually cost between $1000 and $3000 "per-finished-second"! At the turn of the century, however, prices were down to about $50-$100 per-finished-second.
How To Reduce the Cost Even More
It's possible to produce an animation for $30- $50 per second with two conditions: In-house 3D objects are used, and only objects that are relevant to the incident are recreated. In other words, trying too hard to recreate the exact appearance of the scene (with the exact model of car, landscape, etc) raises the final cost.
Certain re-creations may be done in 2D anima- tion. In general this type of animation is less expensive than 3D. It can be used to show a bird's eye view of an intersection or a simple view of the motions of molecules or gears.
