Video segments may be taken

from  a  day-in-the-life  and

put into a settlement video.

Music may be used to portray an

appropriate emotional message:

“This is a serious, tragic case.”

A Settlement Documentary, also known as

a Video Settlement Brochure, is not meant

to be seen by a jury. The purpose is to show

the strength of your case. This facilitates a

much better settlement. It not only increases

the probability of settlement before trial, it

also increases the amount of settlement.

This type of video production is best done
by an experienced video professional. Since
camera operation, lighting, audio, editing,
and shot planning are specialized areas of
video production, amateur attempts in this
area are not at all cost effective. Although
many settlement documentaries may cost
between $3000 and $9000 a simple video
can be produced for less than $1200.

What should be included in the video? In
some cases, the attorney who would take
the case to court might be on the video.
This would demonstrate the attorney’s
communication skills. Those affected by
the injury could be interviewed as well
as an economist or other expert. Accident
scenes and objects related to the case can
often help establish liability.

A settlement documentary can initiate or
enhance your case. A
well-produced video
can have a strong impact in communicating
both liability and damages. Therefore, it is
sometimes advisable to save the video for
the last item to send to insurance adjusters.
